Perhaps the single most empowering service we provide is information.
Consumers consistently identify the lack of centralized information as their most pressing need.
Disability Connection/West Michigan offers resources and information on disability rights and benefits, community resources, the ADA, accessibility, and much more.
Click here for information (brochures) about specific DC/WM programs and services.
The referral process can begin in one of several ways:
- Individuals (self-referrals) come in or call Disability Connection/West Michigan to request information.
- A funder calls us requesting specific services for their consumer.
- A business calls to check on their accessibility…or to schedule disability sensitivity training for staff.
- Another agency or service provider calls us to refer a consumer.
- A friend or family member of a consumer calls to request information.
With this initial contact, a DC/WM staff member or qualified volunteer gathers the demographic information and information about the individual’s issue or needs.
We urge consumers to follow up on their own when we provide information or a referral, since that is a significant part of the ethic of independent, self-determination and independent living.
Disability Connection/West Michigan will always act with the individual as an advocate and resource on their behalf.
