Battling Barriers... Becoming Accessible

By understanding the facts and issues surrounding disabilities, individuals (and the community as a whole) can take the first steps toward breaking down the barriers between two very distinct cultures. Educating individuals will promote better understanding, communication, and interaction between people with disabilities and  those who presently have no disability.  With your help, this can happen within your organization, with your customers, and within our community.

Benefits to you

  • Improved communication between employees
  • Improved communication with  customers
  • When your service and “climate” exceed your employee and customers’ expectations, you’re more successful.

To this end Disability Connection/West Michigan, a non-profit organization, has prepared Disability Sensitivity Training.  These trainings are designed to break down these barriers; they will positively impact individuals’ lives by increasing their awareness of how specific disabilities affect everyday life. The information and activities will allow participants the opportunity to experience - for a moment - what it is like to live with a disability. Our goal is to remove the barriers of stereotypes and the unknown. If there was ever a blueprint for a productive, accessible community for all—this would be the first step.
